A knife edge solitaire engagement ring has a band that rises to a thin ridge on top, so it looks slimmer and sharper than a rounded band. These settings hold one center stone, which you choose in the next step, in round, oval, cushion, princess, emerald, Asscher, radiant, marquise, pear or heart shape.

Buying guide
Two sloping sides meet in a peak along the top of the band, like the edge of a blade. Light catches that ridge, and the narrow top makes the center look larger. The sides keep enough metal to stay strong, so the band still wears well every day. The range includes a plain knife edge solitaire and a knife edge band with a graduated pave row and hidden halo for a little extra sparkle, set with lab-grown diamond accents.
Every design takes ten center shapes. Settings come in white, yellow or rose gold in 10K, 14K or 18K, platinum, or Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver. They are also offered for fancy color centers in yellow, pink, blue and green, and some take black. White metals give a crisp look around a white or blue center; yellow and rose gold warm the color.
Settings start under $300, and most cost about $950 to $1,000. That price is for the setting only; the center is chosen and priced in the next step, so you can balance the band and the stone within your budget.
