Buying guide

What aquamarine is

Aquamarine is the blue member of the beryl family. Its color ranges from a light sea-blue to a deeper, saturated blue, and most stones are gently heat-treated to remove a greenish tint. At 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale it is tough enough for everyday studs. Aquamarine tends to be very clean inside, so even a pale stone looks clear and bright, and it pairs well with blue or neutral clothing.

Shape, size and color

Aquamarine's color is soft, so size changes the look more than with darker gems. Small studs give a hint of blue; larger stones show a fuller color. The emerald cut, a step cut, shows off the stone's clarity, while round, cushion and oval cuts bring more sparkle. Pear and marquise draw the eye downward, and the heart is a playful choice.

Metal and price

  • White gold, platinum and silver keep the blue crisp and cool.
  • Yellow and rose gold add warmth that contrasts with the pale blue.

Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Prices start under $200, and most options are just under $400 at their smallest size.

Each piece is made for you in 10–15 days. Shipping is free on orders over $500, and returns are accepted within 30 days.

Aquamarine Earrings FAQs

How expensive are aquamarine earrings?

Aquamarine earrings start under $200 at Renaissance Jewel, and most options are just under $400 at their smallest size. Price rises with stone size and with 18K gold or platinum. In general, deeper blue aquamarine costs more than pale stones of the same size, but like most colored gems it has modest resale value.

How do you clean aquamarine earrings?

Soak aquamarine earrings for a few minutes in warm water with a little mild soap, then brush gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth. Pay attention to the back of the basket setting, where oils collect and dull the stone. Avoid harsh chemicals and sudden temperature changes.
