Buying guide
A solitaire shows a single center with no halo or side stones around it. In an infinity solitaire, the band carries the detail instead: two strands twist or cross like the infinity symbol and meet at the head. The look stays simple from above, with movement along the sides of the finger.
Some settings set pavé, small lab-grown diamond accents, along the twisting strands for sparkle around the whole band. Others mix a polished strand with an accented one, so the crossover shows clearly. A crossover twist with pavé on both strands reads busier; a plain-and-pavé twist is softer.
A solitaire puts the center first, so its shape sets the look. Elongated shapes such as oval, pear and marquise follow the line of the twist, while round and cushion sit evenly at the crossing point. Fancy blue, pink, yellow or green centers are offered too. Platinum and white gold keep the twist bright; yellow and rose gold make it warmer. Settings start under $400, and most cost between about $1,270 and $1,550; the price is for the setting, and the center is priced when you choose it.
