Buying guide
In a three stone ring the two side stones widen the top and frame the center. A split shank carries that width down the band, so the ring looks balanced from the top and from the side. The split also leaves a small opening on each side of the head that lets light reach the stones.
The side stones are lab-grown diamond accents. Some settings use matching side stones; others use pear, marquise or trillion side stones that point toward the center. Most settings set pave along the strands. A few cross the strands in a bypass, add a halo around the center, twist the band, or bring in vintage filigree and milgrain. A round center works with every setting, and most also take oval, cushion, princess, emerald, radiant, Asscher, pear, marquise or heart.
Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K, and platinum and silver are also offered. Most settings take a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and some a black center. Settings start under $350, and most cost about $950 to $1,450. That price covers the setting and its accents only; the center is priced when you choose it.
