Buying guide
Art deco and antique-style rings lean on fine detail. Milgrain is a row of tiny beads along the edges of the metal, and it appears on most of these settings. Filigree adds open scrollwork, engraving cuts patterns into the band, and floral designs shape the metal or lab-grown diamond accents into petals and leaves. Many designs add a halo or a pavé band of lab-grown diamond accents, while others keep a clean solitaire profile with vintage touches in the gallery.
Platinum is dense and naturally white, so it needs no plating to keep its color. When it gets scratched, the metal moves rather than wearing away, which helps fine beading and engraving hold up over years of daily wear. It feels heavier on the hand than gold, and over time it develops a soft satin look that some people like on an antique-style ring. A polish brings back the shine.
Settings run from about $1,150, and most fall between about $1,700 and $2,300. That price covers the platinum setting and its accents; the center is priced when you choose it. Most designs also take a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and some are made for a black center. Some designs offer a choice of band width, from about 1.8 to 2.8 mm.
