Buying guide
Engraving carves a pattern into the metal of the band, the shoulders or the gallery under the center. It catches light differently from polished metal and gives the ring texture even without stones. On these designs the engraving is part of the setting itself. Many pair it with milgrain edges, and some add pavé lab-grown diamond accents, floral shoulders, a halo or a three-stone top.
Platinum is a dense, naturally white metal, so it doesn't need plating to stay white and it holds prongs securely. Over time it develops a soft satin look, which can be polished back to a shine.
Engraved lines soften slowly with wear on any metal. Platinum tends to move rather than wear away, so the pattern lasts well, and a jeweler can refresh it if needed.
Nearly every design takes a round, oval, cushion, princess, emerald, radiant, asscher, pear, marquise and heart center. Most designs can be ordered for a white, fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and some for a black center.
Settings start from about $1,650, and most are between about $1,850 and $2,450. That price is for the setting; the center is priced when you choose it.
