Buying guide
In a channel set band, the accent stones sit in a groove between two walls of metal, with no prongs between them. The walls protect the edges of each stone and leave a smooth surface that is less likely to catch on clothing. On these rings the channel holds lab-grown diamond accents, often tapered baguettes that get smaller toward the back of the band, which draws the eye toward the peridot.
Peridot is the August birthstone, known for its bright yellow-green color. It rates about 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, softer than sapphire or diamond, so it is best for a ring worn with some care. Take it off for gardening, the gym or cleaning, and store it apart from harder stones. The channel set accents add sparkle without needing extra prongs near the center.
Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K, and some bands are about 2 to 2.2 mm wide. Yellow and rose gold warm up the green of the peridot, while white gold, platinum and silver give a cooler contrast. Prices start under $400 in silver, and most rings fall between about $900 and $1,300.
