Peridot is the August birthstone, a green gem that rates about 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. That is softer than sapphire or diamond, so take the ring off for the gym, gardening or cleaning. Baguettes are long, rectangular stones with step facets. Next to a green center they give clean lines and flashes of light, a tailored contrast to the softer shine of the peridot.
In the channel set designs, tapered baguettes sit in a metal channel along the band, which protects their edges and gives a smooth surface. The pave and channel-set design pairs baguettes with rows of small round lab-grown diamonds, and the mixed accent band blends baguettes with other shapes. The three stone design places a larger tapered baguette on each side of the peridot for a more structured look.
Round and oval peridots look classic, while emerald and princess shapes echo the straight lines of the baguettes. Choose the size on the product page: every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K, and yellow gold brings out peridot's warmth. Prices start under $500 at the smallest option, and most rings are between about $1,100 and $1,450.
