Buying guide
A split shank is a band that separates into two strands near the top of the ring. The gap adds width and light around the center without making the band heavy on the finger, and it gives a modest center a larger look from above. On these settings both strands carry pave, so small lab-grown diamond accents run along the band toward the center.
Most of these split shank pave engagement ring settings pair the split band with a halo, and a few use a double halo for even more sparkle around the center. Some keep the center alone as a solitaire on top of the split band. You will also find twisted strands, rope-style shanks, three stone tops, graduated pave and a few vintage looks with milgrain.
Gold designs come in 10K, 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold. Platinum is the densest and most hard-wearing choice, and silver is the lightest on the budget. Where a design offers band widths, they run from about 1.8 to 2.8 mm. If you plan to wear a wedding band alongside, a split shank leaves a slightly wider gap at the top, so try the pair together.
Settings start under $250, and most fall between about $899 and $1,479. That price is for the setting only; your center is chosen and priced in the next step, in a colorless stone or a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green, with black on some designs.
