Cushion Cut Engagement Rings with Pear Side Stones

A cushion cut engagement ring with pear side stones pairs a soft-cornered square center with pear-shaped lab-grown diamond accents on either side. Most designs here are three stone rings, and some add a halo or a pave band. Every setting comes in white, yellow or rose gold, platinum, or Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver.

Buying guide

Why pear side stones suit a cushion

A cushion has straight sides and rounded corners, so it reads softer than a princess. Pear side stones carry that curve: their rounded ends echo the corners, and their tapered points lead the eye back to the center. The pair also spreads the ring across the finger, so the whole head looks larger than the center alone. Because the pears sit low beside the head, they protect the center's sides a little as well.

Three stone, halo or pave

  • Three stone: the most common look here, with one pear on each side of the center.
  • Halo: a few designs ring the center with small accents before the pears.
  • Pave band: some designs line the shank with small lab-grown diamond accents.
  • Bypass and split shank: a few designs wrap or divide the band for a less formal shape.

Metals, center colors and price

Gold settings come in 10K, 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, and platinum and silver are offered on every design. Every setting also takes a fancy blue, green, yellow or pink cushion, and about half take black. Band widths run from about 1.8 to 2.8 mm. Settings start around $300, and most cost between about $700 and $950. That price covers the setting only; the center is chosen and priced in the next step.
