These cathedral cushion cut engagement rings raise the center on metal arches that sweep up from the band, so the cushion sits tall and the profile looks graceful from the side. Most are solitaires, with pave, channel set and vintage settings among them. Each setting comes in white, yellow or rose gold, platinum or silver, and you choose the cushion center in the next step.

Buying guide
In a cathedral setting, the shoulders of the band rise in two arches that meet the head of the ring, like the vaults of a cathedral roof. The arches support the center from below and give the ring height, which makes a cushion cut look larger from the side and leaves room for a straight wedding band to sit close. A raised center does catch more often on sweaters and gloves than a low bezel, so it suits wearers who are used to prongs.
Most settings can also hold a fancy color center in yellow, green, blue or pink, and a few are made for a black center.
Every setting comes in 10K, 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, in platinum, and in Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver. Platinum is dense and naturally white; gold is lighter and comes in three colors. Settings start under $200 in silver, and most are between about $850 and $1,150. The price is for the setting only; the center is priced when you choose it.
