Buying guide
A bezel surrounds the center with a smooth rim of metal, so it holds the stone securely and has no prongs to snag. On its own, that rim can look plain. Pave adds the sparkle back: tiny stones set close together and held by small beads of metal, on the band, the halo or the gallery. A pave bezel ring gets the protection of the bezel and the shine of the accents.
A few styles use slim bands of about 2 to 2.5 mm.
White gold and platinum keep the pave bright and white. Yellow and rose gold give a warmer frame. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Most settings take a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and a few take black, chosen in the next step. Settings start under $250, and most are between about $800 and $1,300; the center is priced when you choose it.
