Buying guide
Pave means small stones set close together along the band, held by tiny beads or prongs so the metal reads as a line of sparkle. On every ring here those stones are lab-grown diamonds. Their white light sets off the purple of amethyst and keeps the center as the focus. Some designs use graduated pave that grows toward the center, and a few pair pave with channel-set baguettes.
Amethyst is the February birthstone, a purple quartz that rates 7 on the Mohs scale. It suits everyday wear, though it can scratch more easily than sapphire. Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight, and gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. White gold, platinum and silver keep the purple cool, while yellow and rose gold warm it. Prices start under $300, and most rings are between about $750 and $1,050 at their smallest option.
