An amethyst bypass ring wraps two ends of the band past the stone, so the purple center looks held in a soft swirl. Each ring sets a natural, treated amethyst in round, oval, cushion, emerald cut, princess, pear, marquise or heart shape. Every design comes in white, yellow or rose gold, platinum, or Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver.

Buying guide
In a bypass ring the two sides of the band slide past each other instead of meeting under the stone. The result is an open, flowing line that suits a colored center like amethyst. Most designs here are plain solitaires with a polished or wide flat band. Some shape the band into leaves for a floral look, and a few add lab-grown diamond accents in pave, channel-set rows or a split shank. There is also a bezel version, with a metal rim that circles the amethyst and protects its edges.
Every design lets you pick the size on the product page, from 1 to 9 carats total weight. Amethyst is a 7 on the Mohs scale, fine for daily wear with some care, and larger sizes show deeper color. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K; platinum and silver are also offered. Most bands are slim, around 1.8 to 2.2 mm, which keeps the swirl delicate.
Prices start under $350 for the smallest option, and most rings sit between about $800 and $1,050. Gold karat, platinum and the size you pick all change the price.
