A Promise, Perfected

Tanzanite Bypass Rings

A tanzanite bypass ring wraps the band around the stone so the two ends pass each other instead of meeting. Every ring here holds natural, treated tanzanite in round, oval, cushion, pear, princess, emerald, marquise or heart shapes. Choose white, yellow or rose gold, platinum, or Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver, for a tanzanite bypass engagement ring or an everyday ring.

Buying guide

How a bypass ring holds the tanzanite

In a bypass design the band splits around the center and its two ends slide past each other at an angle, which gives the ring a sense of movement. The tanzanite sits between the ends, so the metal curves frame it from both sides. Most rings here are bypass solitaires, with plain, polished or wide flat bands. Others add leaf details, a pave leaf band, a split shank with channel set accents, or a bezel around the center with side stones. All accents are lab-grown diamonds.

Caring for tanzanite

Tanzanite is known for its blue-violet color, which shifts between blue and purple as you turn the stone. It sits around 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, softer than sapphire or diamond, so it suits a ring worn with some care. Take it off for sports, gardening and heavy work, and clean it with warm soapy water rather than an ultrasonic cleaner. A bezel setting gives the stone's edge the most protection.

Weight, metal and price

Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight, chosen on the product page. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K, and every design is also made in platinum and silver. White metals keep the blue crisp, while yellow and rose gold bring out the violet. Prices start at about $300, and most rings are between about $800 and $1,000 at the smallest option.
