Most settings carry pave lab-grown diamond accents on the band as well as the halo. Some add graduated halos, where the accents change size around the center, and a few use art deco side panels, channel-set bands or split shanks. Settings are also made for fancy-color centers, such as blue, yellow, pink or green, and some for a black center, which suits the darker, antique look of milgrain.
Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Yellow and rose gold lean toward an antique feel; white gold and platinum keep a bright frame. Silver is the most affordable. Settings start under $250, and most fall between about $750 and $1,100. That price covers the setting; the center is priced when you choose it.
