Buying guide
A halo is a frame of small stones around the center. It makes the marquise look larger, adds sparkle around its edge, and protects the two pointed tips. Some designs use a graduated halo, where the accents step down in size, and a few set the halo in bezels or a beaded frame.
Most designs here have milgrain, a fine beaded edge on the halo or band. Many add a pavé band. Others use filigree scrollwork in the gallery, floral or leaf shapes, engraving, or Art Deco side panels. A few combine the halo with side stones, a split shank or a bypass band.
Yellow and rose gold suit the antique look; white gold and platinum make the halo blend into one bright outline. Most settings can be ordered for a colorless center or a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and some for black. Settings start from about $200, and most are between about $750 and $1,100. That price is for the setting; the center is priced when you choose it.
