Buying guide

What pear side stones add

A pear side stone engagement ring uses teardrop-shaped accents on each side of the center. Set with their rounded ends toward the center and points outward, they taper the ring's outline and make the center look larger. Some designs pair each pear accent with small round stones or group them in clusters.

Pairing the center shape

  • Round and oval centers give the softest match with curved pear sides.
  • Radiant, emerald, princess and Asscher centers contrast straight corners with the curved accents.
  • Pear, marquise and heart centers repeat the pointed tips.

Styles, center colors and price

Most designs are three stone rings; some add a halo, a pave band, a bezel or a bypass shape. Most take a colorless, fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and some take black. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Prices shown are for the setting: they start around $300, and most are between about $725 and $950. The center is priced when you choose it.
