Engraving cuts a pattern into the metal surface, such as scrolls or leaves along the band and shoulders. It gives texture that catches light between the stones and is a mark of many older rings. These designs pair it with other vintage details: beaded milgrain edges, a split shank that opens toward the center, and a halo with a hidden halo beneath it.

Every design here can be ordered with a lab-grown blue, pink or yellow sapphire center. A lab-grown sapphire is corundum, with the same chemistry, hardness and crystal structure as a natural sapphire. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is one of the hardest gems, which makes it a sound choice for a ring worn every day, and it costs far less than a natural sapphire of the same size and color.
Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Engraving shows up well in yellow and rose gold, and platinum or white gold suits a lab-grown blue sapphire. Rings start under $450 at the smallest size, and most start between about $1,070 and $1,100.
