Lab-Grown Ruby Vintage Rings

These vintage lab-grown ruby rings set a lab-grown ruby in antique-style designs: milgrain frames, leaf and pierced halos, filigree galleries, engraved solitaires and swirl bands. Most add pave lab-grown diamond accents. Every design comes in eight center shapes. Choose white, yellow or rose gold in 10K, 14K or 18K, platinum, or Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver.

Antique details to look for

  • Milgrain: tiny metal beads along the edges, found on many older rings.
  • Halos: a frame of lab-grown diamonds around the lab-grown ruby, in leaf, milgrain or pierced styles, plus hidden halos under the center.
  • Filigree and engraving: open metalwork under the center and carved patterns on the band.
  • Bezel accents and swirls: rimmed side lab-grown diamonds and curving bands with an art deco or Victorian feel.

A lab-grown ruby ring in a vintage style suits engagement or everyday wear. Halo designs give the most sparkle, while a milgrain solitaire keeps the center stone alone in front.

Lab-grown ruby

A lab-grown ruby is corundum, the same mineral as a natural ruby, with the same chemistry, hardness and red color from chromium. At 9 on the Mohs scale it stands up well to daily wear, second only to diamond among common ring stones. A lab-grown ruby costs far less than a natural ruby of the same size and color, and it is often cleaner to the eye.

Carat, metal and price

Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Yellow and rose gold give these antique-style rings their warmest look, and platinum or white gold make the red stand out more sharply. Rings start under $350 at the smallest size, and most start between about $840 and $1,090.
