Yellow Gold Lab-Grown Ruby Vintage Rings

These yellow gold antique-style lab-grown ruby rings borrow details from older jewelry: milgrain edges, filigree galleries, engraved leaves and halos of lab-grown diamonds. Each design takes a lab-grown ruby in an oval, round, cushion, pear, marquise, heart, princess or emerald shape, and comes in 10K, 14K or 18K yellow gold.

Vintage details to look for

  • Milgrain: rows of tiny metal beads along the edges, found on most designs here.
  • Filigree and engraving: openwork galleries, leaf patterns and swirls cut into the metal.
  • Halos: a frame of lab-grown diamonds around the lab-grown ruby, including leaf, milgrain-framed and hidden halo styles.
  • Solitaires: a single lab-grown ruby on an engraved or milgrain band for a quieter look.

Many designs also carry pave lab-grown diamonds along the band, and a few add bezel-set accents or a split shank.

Choosing the lab-grown ruby's size

Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Smaller weights suit the finer engraved and milgrain bands, while a larger lab-grown ruby pairs well with a halo that carries the color outward. A lab-grown ruby is corundum, like a natural ruby, and rates 9 on the Mohs scale, hard enough for an everyday ring. Where a band width is listed, it runs about 1.8 to 2.5 mm.

Picking a karat of yellow gold

Every ring comes in 10K, 14K or 18K yellow gold. 10K is the hardest and palest of the three, 18K has the deepest yellow and is a little softer, and 14K sits between them. Yellow gold suits a vintage design, since it echoes older family pieces. Prices start under $750, and most rings fall between about $900 and $1,100.
