Buying guide
A lab-grown pink sapphire is corundum, the same mineral as a natural sapphire, with the same hardness and color. It rates 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, so it suits a ring worn every day. Growing the crystal in a lab gives even pink color at a far lower cost than a natural pink sapphire of the same size.
A halo makes the pink center look larger and adds white sparkle around its color. A double halo adds a second row for a bolder look. Most designs also set lab-grown diamonds along the band in pavé, and split shank designs divide the band near the center to open up the setting. For a lab-grown pink sapphire halo engagement ring with a simpler line, look for a plain or leaf band.
Rose gold makes the pink look warmer, while white gold, platinum and silver keep the halo bright and cool. Gold designs come in 10K, 14K or 18K, and most bands are 1.8 to 2.2 mm wide. Prices start under $350, and most lab-grown pink sapphire rings with a lab-grown diamond halo are between about $750 and $1,000.
