Buying guide
A regular halo frames the center from the top. A hidden halo sits lower, around the base of the center stone, so you see a single stone face-up and a band of small lab-grown diamonds from the side. It adds sparkle without making the center look smaller or busier, and it suits people who want a solitaire look with a little extra detail.
Most designs pair the hidden halo with a pave band, which carries sparkle down the shoulders. Others keep a plain band, from thin to flat and wide, so the halo is the only accent. Some designs add vintage milgrain, side stones, baguettes or a graduated pave band. Most designs also offer fancy yellow, pink, blue and green centers, and some take a black center.
Most designs come in round, oval, emerald, radiant, marquise, pear, heart, princess, cushion and Asscher shapes, so you can match the halo to the center you have in mind. Every setting comes in white, yellow or rose gold, in 10K, 14K or 18K. The price shown is for the setting: settings start under $575, and most fall between about $800 and $1,050. The center is priced when you choose it.
