A halo is a frame of small stones set tightly around the center. It adds sparkle, makes a modest center look larger, and protects the center's edges. A gold halo ring can follow the center's outline, so an oval gets an oval halo and a pear gets a pear halo. A few designs use a double halo for more presence, and a few have a hidden halo that sits below the center and shows from the side.
Most designs pair the halo with a pave band of lab-grown diamond accents. Vintage designs add milgrain edges and filigree, split shanks divide the band into two strands near the center, and some designs add side stones, floral details or a bezel-set center. Band widths on most designs run from about 1.8 to 2.2 mm.
White gold keeps the halo bright and icy, yellow gold gives warm contrast around the lab-grown diamond accents, and rose gold adds a soft blush. Most designs can also be ordered for a fancy color center in pink, blue, yellow or green, and some for a black center, with the halo set to match.
