In a channel setting, small stones sit side by side in a groove in the band, held by the metal on each side instead of by prongs. There is nothing to snag on clothing, and the accents are well protected. That makes a channel set band a sensible match for a cushion cut, whose rounded corners are less likely to chip than sharp points.
Every design can be made for a fancy color center in blue, pink, yellow or green, and some also take a black center. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Settings start under $300, and most are between about $1,100 and $1,500. The price is for the setting only; the center is priced when you choose it.
