Buying guide
Milgrain is made by pressing a small beaded wheel along the metal's edge. The beads catch light, frame the center and lend the ring a hand-finished, antique look. In yellow gold the beading reads warm and soft. Many of these settings pair milgrain with pave lab-grown diamond accents on the band, and about half add a halo. Others combine it with a bezel, filigree, engraving, floral details or a three stone layout.
Most designs can also hold a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and some a black center, chosen in the next step.
Every setting comes in 10K, 14K or 18K yellow gold. 10K is the hardest and lightest in color, 18K is the richest yellow and a bit softer, and 14K balances the two. Prices are for the setting only, from about $600, with most between about $950 and $1,300. The center is priced when you choose it.
