A lab-grown sapphire has the same chemistry and hardness as a natural sapphire: 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, so it holds up well to daily wear in an engagement ring. Lab-grown sapphire is usually cleaner and more evenly colored than a natural sapphire of the same size, and it costs less. Blue is the classic choice; pink and yellow lab-grown sapphire look bright and warm against yellow gold.
Many designs also let you pick the band width, from about 1.8 to 2.5 mm.
Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight, chosen on the product page. Prices start under $600 at the smallest option, and most rings fall between about $800 and $1,050.
