The frame also protects the edge of the center. A lab-grown sapphire is corundum, 9 on the Mohs scale, so it handles daily wear well.
Blue lab-grown sapphire gives the classic deep look, and yellow gold makes it feel warm and rich. Pink lab-grown sapphire looks softer, and the gold brings out its warmth.
