What pave means on a silver ring

Pave sets rows of small stones close together, held by tiny beads of metal, so the surface reads as a band of sparkle. On these rings the pave stones are lab-grown diamond accents. Some designs run pave along the band only, some add it to the shoulders or a halo, and a few use a micro pave row so fine the metal barely shows between stones.

Styles in pave sterling silver rings

  • Halo: a ring of lab-grown diamond accents around the center makes it look larger. Some designs use a hidden halo under the center or a double halo.
  • Solitaire with pave band: the center sits alone on a pave band, a clean look with sparkle down the sides.
  • Vintage: milgrain edges, filigree and engraving, often paired with pave shoulders.
  • Toi et moi and side stone: two centers side by side, or marquise, pear or baguette side stones beside the center.

Many designs are also drawn for a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and some for a black center.

Choosing a band and caring for silver

Most bands are about 1.8 to 2.5 mm wide. A thinner band makes the center look bigger, and a wider one holds more pave. Silver is softer than gold or platinum, so pave in silver is best cleaned with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, and kept apart from harder pieces to avoid scratches. Settings start under $200, and most cost between about $325 and $425. That price is for the setting only; the center is priced when you choose it.
