Buying guide

What a halo does

A halo is a frame of small lab-grown diamonds set close around a center stone. It makes the center look larger and adds sparkle at its edge. A double halo adds a second ring for even more face size. On these earrings the halos are pavé, with stones set close together, and some designs carry pavé onto the head, a hoop or the drop as well.

Studs or drops

  • Halo studs: a round center with pavé on the head, or a double halo with marquise accents.
  • Open teardrop studs: a pear center in a double halo shaped like a drop.
  • Drop earrings: cushion, pear and round halos hanging from lever backs, which close against the earlobe for a secure fit, and a round and pear double halo with a linear drop.

Carat weight, metal and price

Carat options are the total weight of every lab-grown diamond in the pair, center stones and halos together. Depending on the design, they run from about 1.2 to 6 carats. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K, and platinum is offered on every design. Prices start from about $350, and most pairs cost between about $900 and $2,200.
