Buying guide

Flower studs and leaf studs

  • Cluster flowers: marquise, pear and round lab-grown diamonds arranged as petals, so a pair of small stones reads as one larger bloom.
  • Sculpted blooms: sunflowers with beaded centers, layered magnolia petals and a halo flower around an oval center.
  • Leaf studs: olive branches and sculpted leaves, some polished, some pavé.
  • Bezel center: a flower cluster with a bezel-set round stone in the middle.

Why a cluster looks bigger

In a cluster, several smaller lab-grown diamonds sit tight together, and from a short distance the eye reads them as one shape. That gives a lab-grown diamond flower stud more face size than a single stone of the same total weight. Marquise and pear petals add length, which makes the flower look open and full.

Carat weight, metal and price

Carat options are the total weight of all the lab-grown diamonds in the pair, and they vary by design. Petite studs start under a tenth of a carat, many designs sit around 1 to 2 carats, and a few larger clusters go up to 9 or 10 carats. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Prices start under $100, and most pairs cost between about $450 and $800.
