Milgrain is a row of tiny metal beads pressed along the edge of a band. It softens the outline, catches light in a gentle way, and gives a ring the look of early twentieth-century jewelry. On a curved band the beading follows the curve, which frames the lab-grown diamonds and makes the dip around the center stone stand out.
A milgrain contour wedding band bends in a smooth arc. A wave band rises and falls more softly. Chevron bands come to a V point, which suits pear, marquise and oval centers and is shown here with marquise frames or scrollwork. Some contours have a notch that tucks under the engagement ring. Match the shape to the profile of your ring so the two sit flush.
Most of these bands are pavé set, with small lab-grown diamonds held by beads of metal for a continuous sparkle. A channel-set band holds the stones between two walls of metal, which gives a smoother surface that is less likely to catch on clothing.
