Buying guide
The side stones set the ring's look as much as the center does.
Graduated designs step the stone sizes down from the center for a smooth line.
Many three stone heart engagement rings add pave of lab-grown diamond accents along the band. Vintage designs bring milgrain, filigree or engraving. A split shank divides the band near the center for a wider look, and a bypass band curves around the stones. A few designs add a halo or bezel around the stones. Band widths run from about 1.8 to 3 mm, with most between 2 and 2.5 mm.
Every design comes in yellow, white or rose gold (10K, 14K or 18K), platinum, and Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver. Most designs also take a fancy green, blue, pink or yellow center, and many take a black center. Settings start under $250, and most cost between about $900 and $1,400. That price is for the setting; the center is priced when you choose it.
