Buying guide
Pave sets many small lab-grown diamonds close together, each held by tiny beads of metal, so the surface looks paved with stones. On these pendants the pave may circle a center stone as a halo, cover the bail the chain runs through, or trace an open shape. Many designs combine a larger prong-set lab-grown diamond center with a pave frame, and some add a bezel rim or milgrain edge.
Centers come in shapes such as oval, cushion, emerald cut and marquise.
Most designs offer about 1 to 6 carats total weight, and some start lower, at 0.25 to 0.75 carat. Every design comes in 10K or 14K gold: 10K is harder and costs less, and 14K has a richer color. Yellow gold gives a warm look, rose gold a soft one, and white gold the brightest frame for the lab-grown diamonds. Prices start from about $650, and most pendants are around $800 at the smallest option.
