Buying guide
Pavé means many small stones set close together with tiny beads of metal, so the band looks paved in sparkle. A cluster groups stones into one shape. On these settings the pavé lines the band while the cluster sits at the top, either as a floral halo around the center or as small bezel-set groups on each shoulder. The shoulder style also brings milgrain edges and a vintage feel.
You can choose a round, oval, cushion, princess, emerald, Asscher, radiant, marquise, pear or heart center. Fancy blue, pink, yellow and green centers are offered as well. A floral halo suits round and cushion centers; shoulder clusters leave the center's outline clear, which flatters elongated shapes such as oval, pear and marquise.
Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K, in white, yellow or rose. Pavé looks brightest in white gold or platinum, where the metal beads blend with the stones. Settings start from about $475, and most are around $1,025. That price covers the setting only; the center is priced when you choose it.
