A round solitaire is the simplest engagement ring: one round stone on a band. The round cut returns more light than any other shape, and with nothing around it the center gets all the attention. White gold adds to that effect, since the bright metal makes a colorless center look whiter. Most designs here also take a fancy-color center, such as pink, blue, yellow or green, and some take a black center.
Most bands are about 1.8 to 2.5 mm wide; a thinner band makes the center look larger. The price is for the setting only: settings start under $450, and most are between about $900 and $1,100. The center stone is priced when you choose it.
