In white metal, the small beads and prongs that hold each pavé stone blend in with the stones themselves, so a pavé band looks like one unbroken line of light. That makes white gold a natural pick for a pavé diamond ring with a clean, bright look. White gold is gold alloyed with whiter metals, and it is often finished with a bright plating that can wear over time and be refreshed by a jeweler.
Every design comes in 10K, 14K or 18K white gold. Higher karats hold more gold; lower karats are a little harder. Pavé stones are small, so a quick check of the setting now and then and gentle cleaning with warm soapy water keep them secure and bright. Most designs can also be set for a fancy blue, green, yellow or pink center. Settings start under $500, and most are between about $900 and $1,200, for the setting only; the center is priced when you choose it.
