Buying guide
Floral settings use nature as the pattern. A flower ring often sets the center as the bloom, with petals of metal or small stones around it. Leaf and vine rings run the motif along the band or shoulders. Cluster designs group small lab-grown diamonds into a flower shape. Many combine the motif with pavé, a halo, milgrain or a twisted band, and some are bypass styles where the band wraps around the center.
Every setting takes round, oval, cushion, princess, emerald, radiant, pear, marquise and heart centers, and nearly all take Asscher. A round or cushion center sits naturally as a flower's middle. Oval, pear and marquise centers echo the shape of a petal or leaf, which suits vine and leaf designs. Almost every design also accepts a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center for a garden look.
Every design comes in 10K, 14K or 18K white gold. Detailed petals and leaves hold up best with regular cleaning and a check of small prongs once a year. Settings start from about $500, and most are between about $800 and $1,100. The price covers the setting; the center is priced when you choose it.
