Engraving cuts a pattern into the metal: scrolls, leaves, X motifs or fine lines. On these settings it usually runs along the band or the sides of the head, so the detail shows from the side as well as from above. Many designs pair it with milgrain, a row of tiny beads along the edge, and some add pavé lab-grown diamond accents for extra sparkle between the carved sections.
A solitaire keeps the focus on the center and lets the engraving do the decorating. A halo or three-stone design adds more light around the center. Every setting takes round, oval, cushion, princess, emerald, radiant, pear, marquise and heart centers, and almost all take Asscher too. Most designs also accept a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and some a black one.
Every design comes in 10K, 14K or 18K white gold. Higher karats hold more pure gold and feel slightly heavier; 14K is a common balance of color and durability. Prices start from about $500 for the setting, and most fall between about $1,000 and $1,350. That covers the setting only; the center is priced when you choose it.
