Buying guide
A three stone ring sets one center between two side stones, a layout often read as past, present and future. The vintage versions add details from older rings: milgrain beading along the edges, filigree under the stones, engraved bands and, on some, graduated side stones that step down from the center. Here the side stones are lab-grown diamonds, and some designs add a pave band or a halo.
Round and oval centers give the softest antique look, while emerald and Asscher centers lean art deco. Graduated side stones keep the focus on the center; side stones closer in size make a wider, more even row. Most designs are also drawn for a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and some for a black center.
Every design comes in white, yellow or rose gold (10K, 14K or 18K), platinum, and Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver. Platinum holds milgrain detail well over time; gold is lighter and costs less. Bands run about 2 to 2.8 mm wide. Settings start at about $330, and most cost between about $950 and $1,525, depending on the metal. That price is for the setting; the center is priced when you choose it.
