Buying guide
A lab-grown sapphire is the same mineral as a natural sapphire, corundum, grown in controlled conditions instead of mined. It rates 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, just below diamond, so it stands up well to daily wear in an engagement ring. Blue is the classic choice, while pink and yellow lab-grown sapphires give a softer or brighter look.
A plain band keeps all the attention on the round lab-grown sapphire. Pave bands add lab-grown diamond accents along the shoulders, and many designs here have them. Split shank and bypass bands open or sweep around the center for more shape, while floral, twisted, Celtic knot and hidden halo styles add detail. Most bands are about 1.8 to 2.5 mm wide.
Every design offers 1 to 9 carats, the total weight shown on the product page. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K; 14K is a common balance of color and hardness, and platinum is the densest and most durable option. Prices start under $300, and most are between about $700 and $1,000 at the smallest option.
