Lab-grown sapphire rates 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, second only to diamond, so it stands up well to daily wear in an engagement ring or everyday ring. A lab-grown sapphire has the same chemistry and hardness as a natural sapphire and costs far less for its size and color. The princess cut's square shape and sharp corners show the color in crisp, even planes; prongs or a bezel at the corners protect them.
Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. White gold, platinum and silver make lab-grown blue sapphire look cooler and deeper, while yellow and rose gold warm pink and yellow stones.
