Buying guide
A chevron band dips into a V shape where it meets the center stone. The point draws the eye toward the center and makes the finger look a little longer. It also leaves room for a matching band to nest close below, or for a curved wedding band to follow the V. Because the band itself carries the design, the center can stay a simple solitaire.
Pave means rows of small lab-grown diamond accents held by tiny beads of metal, so the band shows a line of sparkle along the chevron. Small stones set this way are secure for daily wear, but a quick check now and then for loose stones is a good habit. Clean the ring in warm, soapy water with a soft brush to keep the pave bright.
Round and oval centers follow the curve of the V most naturally, while pear and marquise echo its point. Princess, cushion, radiant, emerald and Asscher give a squared outline. Rose gold gets its pink color from copper: 10K is the pinkest and hardest, 18K the richest and softest. The setting starts under $1,150, and many are about $1,200. That price is for the setting only; the center is priced when you choose it.
