Buying guide
A halo is a ring of small stones around the center. A double halo adds a second row outside the first, which makes the center look larger and adds a lot of sparkle across the top of the ring. On a radiant cut, the two rows follow the stone's rectangular or square outline with cropped corners, so the whole top reads as one bright shape.
A radiant cut combines the outline of an emerald cut with brilliant faceting, so it gives strong sparkle in a clean shape. Its cropped corners are less likely to chip than sharp ones. A double halo adds more brightness around it. Every setting can also hold a fancy pink, green, blue or yellow center, and some take a black center.
Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K in white, yellow or rose; platinum is the densest option. Prices are for the setting alone, from under $400, with most between about $850 and $1,000; the center is priced when you choose it.
