Most designs edge the halo or band with milgrain, a row of tiny metal beads that softens the outline. Some use filigree, open metal lacework in the gallery or shoulders, and a few add engraved scrolls or leaves. Small bezel-set lab-grown diamond accents appear on some designs, a detail common in older rings.
Gold designs come in 10K, 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold. Yellow and rose gold give a warm, heirloom look, while white gold and platinum suit art deco styles and keep a colorless center looking white. Platinum holds fine milgrain and engraving well over time.
