Buying guide
Each round lab-grown ruby sits inside a small marquise-shaped frame, and the frames line up across the band. Milgrain, a row of tiny metal beads, traces the edges of each frame. Together they give the band the look of an antique lab-grown ruby eternity ring while the stones stay bright and evenly matched.
A half eternity band carries stones across the top and leaves the lower half plain. That keeps the band comfortable between fingers and makes it easier to wear with an engagement ring. It also means the band can be sized, which a full eternity band can't. Lab-grown ruby rates 9 on the Mohs scale, so the stones stand up well to daily wear.
The band comes in 0.25, 0.35 or 0.5 carats total weight; the larger weights use bigger lab-grown rubies for a stronger line of red. Rose and yellow gold warm up the color of a lab-grown ruby, while white gold and platinum give more contrast. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Prices start under $300 at the smallest option, and the band is about $950 in its typical setup.
