In a bypass ring the band does not meet in one straight line under the stone. Its two ends wrap past the center from opposite sides, giving the ring a gentle swirl. The lab-grown ruby sits in that curve, framed by the moving metal. The look is softer and more organic than a classic straight band.
Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Lab-grown ruby rates 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, so it holds up well to daily wear. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K; yellow and rose gold warm the red, while white gold and platinum give it a crisp contrast. Bands run from about 1.8 to 4 mm wide. Prices start under $350, and most rings are between about $800 and $1,000.
