Filigree is fine, lace-like metalwork, a hallmark of early 20th century rings. In this collection it appears on the gallery under the center or along the band, paired with pavé lab-grown diamonds. A lab-grown emerald has the same chemistry and crystal structure as a natural emerald, with an even, saturated green. Lab-grown and natural emeralds both rate about 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, softer than sapphire, so a halo helps guard its edges. Filigree has small openings that collect lotion and dust; clean it with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, not an ultrasonic cleaner.
