Buying guide
In a bar setting, short vertical bars of metal sit between the stones and grip them on two sides. With no prongs and no channel walls, more of each lab-grown diamond shows from the side. The bars also create a rhythm of metal and stone that reads as more modern than a prong band. Some designs use raised or rounded bars, and a half bezel band adds bar accents.
Round lab-grown diamonds give the classic bar set eternity ring look. Marquise stones set end to end make a pointed, leaf-like line, and round stones alternating with baguettes add contrast. Five stone and seven stone bar set bands use fewer, larger stones for a bolder look across the top.
Depending on the design, options run from 0.25 to 2 carats total weight, and most designs offer 0.5 to 1 carat. Most gold designs come in 10K, 14K or 18K. As half eternity bands, they sit comfortably next to an engagement ring. Prices start around $200 at the smallest option, and most fall between about $600 and $775.
