Buying guide
A halo makes the center look larger from above. Side stones sit on the shoulders just outside the halo, so the top of the ring reads wider and brighter. A halo ring with side stones has more presence on the hand than a halo alone, and the larger accents give it more sparkle than pave by itself.
A three stone halo puts one larger side stone on each side of the framed center. Pear side stones point toward the center and add a softer outline, while bezel accents sit in smooth metal rims. Some designs gather side stones into clusters, and vintage designs add milgrain, filigree or engraving. Many add pave along the band, and a few use a split shank or a bypass band.
Every design comes in 10K, 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, in platinum and in silver. Settings start under $300, and most are between about $800 and $1,100. That price covers the setting; the center, in white or a fancy color such as pink, blue, yellow or green, is chosen and priced in the next step. A halo engagement ring with side stones works with every center shape.
